Jane George

Chair of Trustees, and Chair of Field Lane LGB

I came to education as a second career. My interest developed when my own children were very young. I volunteered in care and education settings, helped on management committees and developed a real enthusiasm for helping young children to develop and learn. I worked with voluntary settings across West Yorkshire to help them to improve the quality of the experiences they were offering to young children and their families. I feel fortunate that my passion has helped me to build a career in education and for over 20 years I have worked in Further and Higher Education. I now manage a HE department, which includes degrees in Early Years, Health and Social Care, Youth and Community Development, Social Work and Counselling and some Masters courses. I still enjoy teaching child development, research skills and continuing professional development. I have written and edited books on early years’ practice and research in early years; settings and I act as an external examiner for a degree in early years. I am interested in well-being in education and feel that learning through play is essential for all, but especially for young children.

Venetia Knight

Chair of Luddendenfoot LGB and Academy Trustee

I have two children at Luddendenfoot Academy and became a Parent Governor in March 2013, taking on the role of health and safety link Governor and Vice-Chair of Governors later that year. I have spent my career working for the environmental regeneration charity Groundwork. As a Senior Manager I have experience of managing a broad range of complex programmes in partnership with the public, private and voluntary sector and specialise in running services that improve the skills and prospects of children, young people and adults. I became a Parent Governor as I felt that I could contribute a range of skills and knowledge from my working life such as HR policy and practise, health and safety management, resource procurement and business management. Through my work, I have supported and employed a large number of adults and young people, including ex-offenders that have experienced a lot of challenges in their lives including poor literacy and academic attainment and a negative experience of school. I therefore bring a commitment to the role of Parent Governor in ensuring that all children enjoy and achieve at primary school to give them the very best chance of making the most of their future education and transition into adult life. I am also keen to see improvements in the development of the outdoor environment at Luddendenfoot Academy, using my prior experience of running a school grounds development programme across Manchester, to support both enrichment of the curriculum and improved opportunities for sports and play time.
